Grad school scholarships?

On the topuniversities blog there's this post https://www.topuniversities.com/blog/finding-scholarship-study-abroad which got me thinking about trying for one of these! I'd like to study somewhere new and far away from home to really make the most of this experience but it seems like such a far-fetched dream sometimes. Have any of you received such scholarships, and care to share how you got them? Thanks!

Hi all,

Hopefully I can help you with your scholarship search.

There are many university scholarships around but the first place to look is on your chosen university's website where you'll find a full list of awards and grants that they offer. Some will be open to everyone but others will be subject specific, needs-based, for high achievers, or for minority students. Scholarships for students from developing countries are also quite common for western universities to give out, particularly the US.

Often you'll need to have been accepted onto a course before applying for a scholarship, but this is not always the case.

One website that's particularly good is Internationalscholarships.com where you can search for scholarships based on your desired subject, country of study and home country, making it easy to see what's open to you around the world.

At QS we also have a range of scholarships for postgraduate students which you can find here - TopUniversities.com/scholarships. These awards are open exclusively to attendees of the QS World Grad School Tour which is a free event hosted all around the world.

Hope this information helps!

Laura

Start your scholarship search right where you're thinking of attending grad school. Check out the school's website for a list of scholarships and fellowships.

Hi Altin. I've never heard of any scholarships based on this, though there are a lot of scholarship schemes out there so it's possible that some take into account language proficiency. For information about studying abroad in different European countries, take a look at our individual country guides: https://www.topuniversities.com/where-to-study/region/europe/guide

And for information on different types of scholarship, take a look at our dedicated site section: https://www.topuniversities.com/student-info/scholarships

Good luck!

Hi Samuel. If your question is about the QS Leadership Scholarship (https://www.topuniversities.com/student-info/qs-scholarships/leadership-scholarship-postgraduate-studies), then the answer is yes - you can use that scholarship for any graduate-level (master's or PhD) program. To be eligible, you first need to attend a QS World Grad School Tour event - you can find your nearest one here: https://www.topuniversities.com/events/qs-world-grad-school-tour

Hello,

There's many places you can look for scholarships, starting from your University's Study Abroad resource page to the amazing number of articles that you can find on the web. There's loads of websites on the Internet that provide lists of scholarships. You just have to have the patience to search for the lists and to go through each of the scholarships and see which one is good for you.

For example, just by doing a quick search I found a list with 100 up to date scholarships and other 350 older ones. So 450 in total. If you really want a scholarship to study abroad you can get it but just have the decency to put a little bit of legwork into it.

Tiberiu

Hi Anthony. We have a list of scholarships to study in Germany here. There are quite a few English-taught master's programs available, and for those you don't need to speak German. At bachelor's level most courses are taught in German, and you will need to prove your proficiency in the language. For more, see our list of frequently asked questions about studying in Germany.

Hi Umair, while studying in Germany is now completely free for undergraduate students, there are still some fees for master's students. For more information see this article. If you gain acceptance onto a program however, you may be eligible for a scholarship to cover these fees. To take a look at various scholarships to study in Germany, click here. Hope this helps!
