FREE TUITION UNIVERSITIES IN GERMANY: COST OF LIVING, VISA APPLICATION AND ADMISSION DEADLINE

GERMAN EDUCATION IS AS GOOD AS THEIR FOOTBALL– CONGRATULATIONS GERMANY ON A WELL DESERVED WORLD CUP GLORY!
Study Abroad 365 has put together a list of 25 universities in Germany that are tuition free for international students seeking to study in Germany. However, be informed that while studying in Germany, you’ll be required to finance your feeding and accommodation expenses. International students should budget roughly 500 Euros for their books, healthcare, food and registration. So in one year, an international student should expect to spend 7000 Euros on feeding, accommodation and books expenses.
HOW TO OBTAIN A VISA
To obtain a German visa, you’ll have to show concrete finance proof of your ability to finance your accommodation and feeding expenses during your time of study. This can be done in either of two ways:
(1) Submit a letter of finances to the German consulate or embassy. You can obtain this sponsor letter from your parents or a German relative who is willing to sponsor your studies in Germany.
(2) Open a German blocked account and deposit roughly 7000 euro. This can only happen once you’ve received your letter of admission. This blocked account is opened in the German embassy.
For more information, visit a German consulate in your home country or check out their websites for further details.

Hi Janah Nassim, many German universities offer language courses during semester breaks (usually between June and September) - you can search for one of these using the DAAD's search tool, and can find out more about pre-study language courses in Germany here. Master's degrees in Germany are unfortunately not usually free unless you previously studied in Germany, but you could look for a scholarship to help fund your studies.

Hi Achyut, you can study your bachelor's degree for free at any public German university. You'll need to prove you have at least the equivalent of 8,700 euros a year for your studies when you apply for your student visa, though it's advisable to budget more than this - you can read more about the typical costs of studying in Germany here. You'll need to prove your English language proficiency with IELTS or TOEFL to study in English (the preferred test and test result for each university will be stated on their official website). English-taught courses can be harder to find at bachelor's level so you might need to be a bit flexible about your program. You can read step-by-step advice on how to apply to study in Germany here. Hope this helps!

Hi Nurudeen, I'm afraid masters degrees in Germany aren't typically free unless you previously studied your undergraduate degree in the country, but you could look for a scholarship - we've listed some here. To find out the best performing universities for your subject, please check out our latest subject rankings for education, with the results narrowed down to show only German universities. Hope this is helpful.

Hi Shougrakpam, not if you'd prefer to study in English! Although it would be useful to know some basic phrases to help you to settle in and communicate with the locals, you do not need to know German overall to study in Germany. An increasing selection of English-taught courses is available, mainly at postgraduate level. You can find out more about studying in English in Germany here. :)

Hi Satyam, if you'd like to seek work in Germany after you graduate, you'd need to extend your residence permit for up to 18 months to look for employment. Your employment prospects are generally much better if you can speak German, but you may be able to find work in an English-based role in large, multinational companies or scientific research institutes. Hope this helps!

Hello maam,
I am AKA from INDIA. I wish to study master in physics from Germany. I have IELTS with score 6 and German language certificate with level A1. Already I have completed my msc from India, still I need to do one more in order to get a good phd from Germany. Can you please tell me am I allowed to do any part time job to cover my living expenses there? How much bucks I have to invest for a two year master? Kindly help me out. Thank you.

Hi Aka, you are allowed to work up to 120 full days or 240 half days per year, however it's not recommended to rely on part time work to fund your living costs - when you apply for your German student visa, you'll need to prove you have around 8,700 euros for living costs for the whole year (although it's probably advisable to budget more than this, especially if you want to live in a large city such as Berlin). Masters degrees in Germany usually cost more than 10,000 euros a semester (with two semesters each academic year). You can read more about the costs of studying in Germany here and we also have a list of scholarships to study in Germany. Hope this helps!

Hi Kiri, did you mean German? The amount of time it takes to learn German will vary depending on how quickly you personally pick up languages and whether or not you find the language easy to pick up. It sounds like you could benefit from studying a preparatory language course, which would end with taking the DSH exam at your university to test your proficiency - you can find out more about these here. Hope this helps!

Hi,

I am a Mechanical Engineer from India, currently working in UAE for 2.5 years. I would like to do my masters in ENERGY ENGINEERING from RWTH AACHEN, Germany.

The course is taught entirely in German and I have to submit C1 level proof for language proficiency. Whats your opinion in doing a masters completely in German( for a student from India) and do you know anyone who did their masters in the same way?
