Study abroad with or with out a scholarship
Winners must demonstrate either an exceptional talent for leadership or social responsibility. The purpose of the scholarships, worth up to US$20,000, is to enable individuals to attend a leading university of business school in order to gain further skills in leadership, teamwork and corporate governance and to be able to make a meaningful difference to the world in which we live all live.
Nadja Specht, the first recipient of a 2004 QS Quacquarelli Symonds scholarship, stands as an excellent case study of how to go about getting financial aid to fund a period of study overseas. Now enrolled at the Goizueta Business School, Emory University, Nadja puts her successful quest for a scholarship down to one reason - persistence. “I had already applied to a number of scholarship schemes in Germany, such those offered by DAAD, ERP (Deutsche Studienstiftung), Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung without any success, but I knew that I had to just keep trying.”
Like many successful scholarship applicants, Nadja’s application combined the important qualities of potential, ability, international experience and strength of character to impress the scholarship panel. “I had always wanted to pursue a postgraduate qualification internationally for the exposure to a different culture and an insight into how business works abroad, especially marketing in the USA and to win this scholarship has enabled me to pursue my dream.”
‘The path to scholarship success is by no means an easy one, but for those with the persistence, energy, planning and organisational skills to put together a good application, it can be a rewarding one.’
Nadja’s story, like so many others in her enviable position, is a testament to how good students are rewarded in their quest for funding to help them study overseas. The path to scholarship success is by no means an easy one, but for those with the persistence, energy, planning and organisational skills to put together a good application, it can be a rewarding one.
Good luck in your search!
