Study in Malaysia
One of the most exciting opportunities for graduate students considering a masters or a PhD program in Malaysia is the growth of international universities and colleges offering their degree programs in the country.
One of the most exciting opportunities for graduate students considering a masters or a PhD program in Malaysia is the growth of international universities and colleges offering their degree programs in the country, either in partnership with local institutions or on a standalone basis. From Kuala Lumpur to Penang, graduate students are able to access a range of internationally validated and awarded graduate degrees enabling them to study in a more flexible and economic way. Distance learning education, where locally based Malaysian and international staff teach students through a variety of methodologies, increases this flexibility, enabling students to work while they study, gaining valuable employment experience throughout their graduate degree program.
One of the most reputable international partnerships established in Malaysia is that of the Australian university giant Monash University. Establishing a local campus in tandem with local college Sunway in 1998, the Monash graduate programs on offer to Malaysian and other students have gone from strength to strength and in September 2007 a new US$60 million campus opened its doors. Offering taught and research graduate programs to students from all over the world in six faculties, including information technology, business and engineering, Monash in Malaysia now attracts more than 3,800 students a year, 1,000 of whom are pursuing graduate degrees.
The UK’s University of Nottingham established a campus in Malaysia in 2000 and now attracts 2,700 students from 50 countries. With full and part-time masters and PhD programs in a range of academic areas, including biotechnology, business and management, computer science and technology, and law, Nottingham blends it’s UK reputation for research-led teaching with a unique Malaysian setting. Anurag Kapoor, from India, is currently enrolled on the masters program in International Business Management at Nottingham’s Malaysian campus and speaks for many when he describes the unique experience: “We have the best of both worlds; a British education from experienced professors that give you practical insight into each subject, as well as the opportunity to learn in an Asian country, exposing you to the cultural complexities we face in international business.”
Whether you choose a Malaysian university or one of the increasing number of international institutions setting up in the country, the advantages of studying for a masters or PhD degree there are clear. An interesting cultural and social scene, reduced costs through lower tuition fees and more economical living and good quality academic programs all contribute to an attractive setting in which to pursue your graduate degree.
