Mathematics is one of the most versatile subjects of study available today, and a math graduate can find jobs in a variety of sectors and fields. There are very few jobs that a math graduate cannot do.
A few industries where math graduates find plenty of job opportunities are academia, accountancy, actuarial, aircraft design, banking, brokerage, crime analysis, computer game design, financial analysis, fusion research, IT, logistics, management consultancy, marketing, medical research, merchant banking, metrology, oceanography, oil industry, pharmaceuticals, security service, simulation, statistician, systems analysis, tax, teaching, transport planner, and underwriter.
In spite of all these career options available, a third of all math graduates enter the business or finance sector. Mathematics degrees as well as graduates are in high demand across the world. Their versatility, logical sense and numerical ability are the qualities that hold math graduates in such high demand in most industries. Starting salaries can be between US$40-50,000 and specialized degrees in areas such as operational research or actuarial mathematics can fetch even higher pay packets.
