With its 11 faculties and a vast selection of first and second level and single cycle degree programs, the University of Perugia is about to celebrate the seven hundredth anniversary of its founding in 1308, as attested by the Bull issued by Pope Clement V certifying the birth of the Studium Generale] responds to the needs of young people, the expectations of society, and the workforce demands of the local and national economy. Today, the University is one of the largest employers in the Region of Umbria, looking toward the future and to the international dimension of university studies with its numerous exchange programs and cooperation agreements with prestigious foreign universities, in Europe and around the world. Its location in a city rich in art and culture makes it easy for students to feel at home in the local community. The Universitys impact on the citys social fabric is not, however, only cultural: the Studium Generale has had a profound influence on Perugias urban development.
