Queen Mary is one of the largest multi-faculty colleges of the University of London and is located on attractive campuses at Mile End and Whitechapel, East London, only 20 minutes by tube from the West End, and at Charterhouse Square in the City.  A fourth campus, for the School of Law, will open at Lincoln's Inn Fields during 2007.  We have over 11,000 students studying in three sectors: Humanities, Social Sciences and Laws; Science and Engineering; and the School of Medicine and Dentistry.  Of these, over 2,000 are following postgraduate courses or are registered for research.

For postgraduate study to be a rewarding experience, it needs to take place in the context of a vibrant research community, reflecting the cutting-edge work of academic staff,  Queen Mary provides such an experience and we take pride in the quality of our academic research.  The 2001 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) confirmed Queen Mary's excellence in a broad range of fields and the fact that research performance is continually improving.  The College saw a 100 per cent increase in the number of departments achieving the hightest 5 and 5* ratings since the RAE in 1996 - a total of 60% of all departments  were in these bands.  Over 80% of staff were judged to be in departments ranked as 4, 5 or 5* meaning that they were of national or international excellence.  Since 2001, Queen Mary has been ranked in the top ten in the UK for its resourcing of research.

In The Guardian University Guide for 2006, Queen Mary's Department of Physics secured the top ranking in the subject table, with 14 other departments in the top 20.  Dentistry, Drama, Economics, Engineering, History, Law, Materials and Modern Languages were all ranked in the top ten.

Over the last few years, more than £150 million has been invested in buidling and refurbishment programmes providing many specially designed and attractive faciilities for both academic study and recreational use.  Recent new developments inlude a new student village incorporating cafes, shops and other facilities; a £44 million medical school at Whitechapel.

Queen Mary offers a wide range of postgraduate opportunities.  Subject areas offered  are:

Business and Management, Biological and Chemical Sciences, Computer Science, Computing, e-Commerce and Communications, Economics, Electronic Engineering, Centre for Editing Lives and Letters, Engineering, English and Drama, Film Studies, Geography, Contemporary Global Studies, History, International Relations, Law, Linguistics, Materials, Mathematical Sciences, Medicine and Dentistry, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Physics, Politics, Statistics.  For more information on our full range of taught and research opportunities, please go to www.qmul.ac.uk/postgraduate/index.html
