Queen’s School of Business – Graduate Programs

Queen’s School of Business is Canada’s premier business school and among the best in the world. The school has earned an international reputation for innovation and academic excellence. It has continuously introduced new technologies for business education and new ideas for the practice of management. Queen’s School of Business faculty has won numerous prestigious teaching and research awards, and regularly see their research published in the world’s premier journals.

Located in Kingston, Ontario, one of Canada’s most vibrant small cities, Queen’s University, home of Queen’s School of Business, has a rich academic tradition dating back to 1841, when it was the first degree-granting institution in Canada.

Queen’s School of Business has the distinction of being accredited by all three of the world’s leading accreditation bodies – the AACSB (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), The Association of MBA’s, and EQUIS (through the European Foundation for Management Development). The American magazine BusinessWeek ranks Queen’s #1 in the world outside the U.S. for full-time MBA, #1 in Canada and #21 in the world for executive MBA, and #1 in Canada and #10 in the world for open enrollment executive education.

In addition to the full-time MBA program, Queen’s School of Business offers a variety of outstanding residential graduate programs.

Queen’s Master of Management - Global Management
Queen's Master of Global Management is a highly-focused, 12-month, full-time program offering international experience, international business content and cross-cultural learning to individuals with an undergraduate degree in business. It is a direct-entry program, requiring no previous full-time work experience. The program includes a major team research project and a full term of study at one of our international business school partners.

The Queens’s Master of Global Management Program is offered in three terms. In the first term, the Program provides a comprehensive examination of international business issues including: the global economy, leadership across cultures, international finance and marketing, and other key issues in international business. Students can customize their experience by selecting courses that align with their background and career aspirations.

During the second term, students will study at one of our international business school partners. Queen’s has partnered with the best business schools in a variety of regions around the world. This allows for an exciting cross-cultural experience that greatly enhances the impact of the program. It is during this stage of the program that students work with a company in their host city to conduct research for their group project on issues related to doing business in an international environment.

In the third term, students return to Queen’s to continue their studies in leadership across cultures and global strategy. It is during this stage that students will write their group project and present it to their peers and expert faculty.

Queen’s Master of Management in Accounting
Queen’s Master of Management in Accounting is an 8-month program that begins in May and concludes in December. It is designed to prepare students with an undergraduate degree in business or accounting for a successful career in public accounting, academics, business or other organizations. No previous full-time work experience is required, and students may enter the program immediately upon completion of their undergraduate degree. The timing and content of this program have been enthusiastically endorsed by Canada’s major accounting firms.

The program provides students with a leading-edge practical and theoretical understanding of accounting, and provides the opportunity to develop the competencies and knowledge required to obtain a professional accounting designation(s).

Students will complete four courses in each of two terms, for a total of eight. Six of these courses are compulsory. These core courses are divided into two broad areas: Advanced Accounting and Auditing Applications (AAAA), and Evidence Based Accounting and Auditing (EBAA). For the remaining two credits, the student may choose to either take two elective courses, or undertake a significant research project.

Graduates of this program will be prepared to write the Canadian UFE exams within the same timeframe as their undergraduate classmates who have chosen not to pursue a master’s degree.

Queen’s MSc in Management
Queen’s Master of Science in Management is a challenging 12-month program that focuses on research in one of seven fields of study: accounting, finance, management information systems, marketing, organizational behaviour, management science, and managerial economics. No prior work experience is required for entry into this program.

The primary goal of this Masters program is to prepare students for entry into a high-quality doctoral program. Although some graduates choose to pursue research analyst or consulting careers, most graduates proceed on to a doctoral degree, either at Queen's School of Business or other prestigious institutions, including Duke University, Harvard University, London Business School, and Northwestern University.

Unlike an MBA program, the Queen’s MSc provides an advanced-level conceptual foundation in your chosen field of study, and allows for the pursuit of highly focused research. During the program, each student is required to complete six one-term courses and a research project of publishable quality.

The program is designed for students with a four-year undergraduate degree in commerce or business, as well as graduates of other disciplines. For example, economics graduates may choose to pursue an MSc in finance or managerial economics; engineering or mathematics graduates may choose operations research; and psychology majors may choose organizational behaviour. Other undergraduate degrees may also be considered for study in a related field. Funding is available to all students who are accepted into the program.

Queen’s PhD in Management
The goal of the Queen’s doctoral program is to develop the next generation of scholars, researchers and teachers by providing an active and stimulating intellectual environment.
The program, which is designed for students with a master’s degree or advanced undergraduate degree, begins each year in September and normally requires four years of full-time study.

Students choose to major in one of seven areas: finance, accounting, marketing, management science, managerial economics, organizational behaviour and management information systems. Additionally, students complete three courses in a minor area, which can be taken in the School of Business, or from associated departments such as economics or psychology. Comprehensive examinations take place at the end of second year, and students spend their third and fourth years developing and presenting their thesis proposal, and completing and defending their dissertation.

As a PhD student at Queen’s School of Business, you will work with professors who are passionate about their research, and who thrive on inspiring their students to share that passion.

Our graduates are employed as faculty members in universities around the world, as well as in senior private and public sector positions.
