The TOEFL or IELTS is required of all international applicants whose native language is not English.
In lieu of the TOEFL, a student may submit the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Only the academic format is acceptable and a minimum score of 7.0 is required for all departments and programs.
An Institute minimum TOEFL score of 230 on the computer-based test (CBT), 88 on the internet-based test (iBT), or 570 on the paper-based test (PBT) is required for admissions consideration. Some departments have minimum TEOFL scores higher than the Institute minimum. Please see department requirement for details.

Costs & Aid
Full-time, degree-seeking graduate students are eligible for financial support from Rensselaer in the forms of research assistantships, teaching assistantships, and fellowships. In addition to Institute and departmental assistance, prospective and current students are encouraged to pursue corporate, foundation and private fellowships. Awards are made through the Office of Graduate Education, academic departments, and by outside agencies.
