Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT) is a private non-profit institution founded in 1991 by the Di Tella Foundation and the Instituto Torcuato Di Tella, with support from the international philanthropic community.
The mission of the University is to educate new generations of academic, social, political and business leaders, and to enhance research and scholarship in the arts and sciences.
The University is organized in schools, centers, and departments, with graduate and undergraduate programs in humanities and social sciences. There are eight academic units: Architecture, Business, Economics, Government, History, Law, Mathematics and Statistics and Political Science and International Relations. The University offers (6) undergraduate degrees in Business Economics, Economics, History, International Relations, Law and Political Science. It also offers (13) graduate degrees. (9) MA degrees in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, History, International Studies, Journalism, Law and Economics, Non profit organizations and Public Policy; and (2) graduate programs in Education Administration and in Urban Economics. Two (2) Ph.D. degrees have recently been added in Economics and History.
UTDT offers weekly workshops in economics, political science, business economics, international affairs, contemporary architecture, writing and literary criticism, and in legal philosophy. The academic calendar consists of two 15-week semesters: fall (March-July) and spring (August- December).
Enrolment in 2001 is 1100 undergraduate and 500 graduate students. UTDT seeks to recruit the very best high school and college graduates in Argentina, admitting on average 60% of those who apply. Approximately 16% of the students receive financial aid from the University. The faculty consists of 53 full time professors and 27 visiting professors. The student faculty ratio is 17,7 to 1. Many faculty members have joint appointments with American Universities, including Chicago, Columbia, Maryland, Rochester, and NYU. UTDT is a highly regarded Research University in Latin America and its library, founded in 1958, is the most valuable library devoted to the social sciences in Argentina.
