UNIVERSITY of MALAYA and its graduates will continue to grow in the esteem of the new century but always proud of its fine history and continuously aiming to lead the way in higher education over the decades to come. The year 2005 witnessed the centennial celebration when dated to its predecessors, the King Edward VII College of Medicine established in 1905 and later the founding of the University of Malaya in1949.

LOCATION 

The premier University is strategically located in Kuala Lumpur (KL), the capital city of Malaysia. The campus vicinity abounds with a multitude of ultra modern facilities such as the magnificent high-tech, international but distinctively Malaysian, Petronas twin tower, the Light Rail Transport system, the Biovalley establishment in tandem with global biotechnology, and to the classic heritage sites such as the Merdeka Square and the pre-war buildings.

LIFE ON CAMPUS

The University Library provides world-class facilities and resources with a collection of electronic materials and 1.5 million  volumes of monographs, bound journals, manuscripts and journal subscriptions of about 4,000 titles. In upholding culture and heritage the University has the Cultural Center and Museum of Asian Arts.

Biodiversity studies are crucial for biotechnology endeavor and available on campus is a botanical garden which is a member of the Botanic Gardens Conservation International. Its herbarium is Malaysia's largest university collection containing 63,000 accessions.

Fourteen Residential Colleges provide comfortable living conditions. The extensive student's support facilities include a Career development & Counseling, Health & Medical and Computing  services with a wireless local network.

VITAL STATISTICS

The University believes that diversity among its community strengthens the institution. It is endowed with 1900 academics inclusive of 260 professors. As home to nearly 20,000 undergraduates and 8,500 postgraduates students amongst which are students from 70 countries, the University is increasingly international in its outlook and reputation. This is evident from the global linkages via MOUs and MOAs with 170 institutions of higher learning or professional bodies from 36 countries.
