Achievement Rewards for College Scientists. 12 available @ USD 10,000
Twelve Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding Ph.D. students entering their first through fifth year of study in Fall 2006 in any of the following programs: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Biological and Medical Informatics, Biomedical Sciences, Biophysics, Cell Biology, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Developmental Biology, Genetics, Neuroscience, Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, or Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacogenomics. Additionally, nominees must be U.S. citizens with GPAs of 3.6 or higher (permanent residents and foreign nationals are not eligible). Program Directors are encouraged to nominate previous ARCS Scholars for repeat awards.
The ARCS Scholarship provides a $10,000 to $20,000 stipend for nine months. This award does not include fees or tuition.

Fletcher Jones Fellowship. 2 available @ USD 20,000
One or two awards will be made to Ph.D. students who are advanced to candidacy
and entering up to their sixth year of study. There are no citizenship requirements. Additionally,
nominees must demonstrate financial need. Selection is based on the research accomplishments
and financial need. Prior academic achievements and potential for future contributions to the health
field also are considered. Fellowship recipients must be registered and devote themselves to full-time
research and/or dissertation writing during the award period.
The fellowship provides a $20,000 stipend for twelve months. Fees and tuition are not included and the fellowship is not renewable.

Awarded to entering Ph.D. students of superior potential. There are no citizenship requirements. Recipients are expected to work closely with a faculty member who will mentor and guide them in their academic coursework and scientific research. Support This fellowship provides a $10,000 stipend for nine months. Fees and tuition are not included and the fellowship is not renewable.

Zaffaroni Family Scholarship Program for First-Year Graduate Students. 3 available @ USD 10,000
Three Zaffaroni Family Scholarships will be made to entering Ph.D. students of superior potential who do not qualify for California residency as of Fall 2006; there are no citizenship requirements. Nominees must enroll in one of the following graduate programs: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Biological and Medical Informatics, Biomedical Sciences, Biophysics, Cell Biology, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Developmental Biology, Genetics, Neuroscience, Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, or Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacogenomics.
This award supports entering graduate students during their first year of graduate study. Recipients are expected to work closely with a faculty member who will mentor and guide them in their academic coursework and scientific research.
This award will pay nonresident fees and tuition for three students in the 2006-07 academic year. Stipend or salary is not included and the scholarship is not renewable.
