The Times Good University Guide 2009

In 27 subject areas, the University features in the UK Top Ten, with 14 in the Top Five.

39 subjects have been awarded the highest ratings for teaching quality of between 22 and 24 (the maximum) in national independent assessments conducted by the Quality Assurance Agency.

We have been awarded 2 Nobel Prizes in Medicine and Economics.

Studying at The University of Nottingham

Nottingham is a dynamic and popular institution located in the heart of the UK, and consistently ranks among the top British universities.

We have an internationally recognised reputation for teaching and research, boosted by our Times Higher Education Awards as well as 2 Nobel prizes in Medicine and Economics.

On a measurement of 'research power' — which takes into account both quality of research and the number of research-active staff — Nottingham is 7th in the UK according to independent analysis by Research Fortnight.

We offer over 400 degree programmes on both undergraduate and postgraduate level, including taught (BA/BSc etc, MA/MSc) and research (MPhil, PhD) degrees, in the following Faculties:

″ Arts and Humanities
″ Education
″ Engineering
″ Law & Social Sciences (including the Business School)
″ Medicine and Health Sciences
″ Sciences

More information on the courses we offer can be found in the online prospectuses accessible via the undergraduate and postgraduate links on our homepage.

The International Office is dedicated to helping international students who are looking into studying with us and we look forward to hearing from you.

Why Nottingham?

You may be able to learn a lot from league tables and ratings, but what really distinguishes Nottingham from other universities?

We believe that at Nottingham you will have a truly unique and global experience. Not only do we have students from more than 140 countries, we encourage a global perspective amongst all students and staff as well as participation in our global network.

You can spend part of their degree abroad at our campuses in Malaysia and China, with one of our many Erasmus and Study Abroad partners or within our U21 global network. Our Careers Centre not only offers advice on finding work in the UK, but also in your home country or even a third country. And our global alumni network can help you build your social and professional network when you graduate.

Interactive Nottingham

Nottingham's University Park campus is one of the UK's most attractive campuses, set in 330 acres of tranquil woodland and is only 10 minutes by bus from the city centre. You can take a virtual tour of our campuses here.

Want to find out more about your course? You can download undergraduate departmental brochures or our Parents' Guide. You can also find out more about what is going on in your subject through downloading our podcasts.

The University's filmmaker-in-residence showcases at Test Tube to show 138 short films about Nottingham scientists and engineers, staff and students, and really gets under the skin of the curiosity, dedication and innovation.

Accommodation

Choosing where you will live is an important consideration when you are off to university. At Nottingham you are guaranteed a room in University-arranged accommodation for up to three years of University arranged accommodation. Whether its catered halls or self-catered student villages, or the private sector well help you find somewhere thats just right.

If you have a disability, or any specific personal requirements such as a medical condition or a preference for single sex accommodation, we can provide accommodation to suit your individual requirements. For families or others who prefer to live off campus, the University's Accommodation Office offers help and advice.

Our website at www.nottingham.ac.uk/crs is packed with information to help you find your perfect place and apply for accommodation online. Dont forget to take a tour of our accommodation. And when you have found your new home you can apply for accommodation online.

Catered halls
You have your own room in a hall with cooking done for you as part of your accommodation fee. Your room will also be cleaned every two weeks. Bedding is provided if required, free of charge, which you are responsible for laundering. Our team of hall staff will be busy in the background making sure you have everything you need, so you can get on with those important things at university studying and socialising.
We have two catered sites to choose from University Park and Jubilee Campus, which are home to a total of 14 catered halls. There are different room types available, depending on which location you choose.

Self-Catered halls
Great for coming and going as you please! You have your own room, typically in a shared flat with a kitchen/diner for making your meals. There are also self-contained en-suite studios available at one site.

Catered halls of residence (http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/nh/students/accomm/catered_halls/) provide a more 'home from home' service. 15 halls, accommodating around 4,000 students across the University Park, Jubilee and Sutton Bonington campuses, are owned and managed by the University. Three meals a day are provided as part of the accommodation fee with a varied menu that caters for a range of dietary requirements.

The self-catering student villages (http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/nh/students/accomm/self_catered_residences/) combine an independent lifestyle with a close-knit student community. There are over 2,000 self-catering places available in purpose-built flats, each housing four to seven students, across three sites. Each flat has its own study bedroom; kitchen and bathroom facilities are shared. Self-catering sites are owned by external developers who work in close partnership with Accommodation Services to ensure that the flats meet their high standards.

We can also help find accommodation for students who have specific requirements such as those with a partner or family, disability or special dietary requirements.

Accommodation Range

Accommodation prices range depending which type of accommodation you apply for. For detailed information on prices and types of accommodation, please visit http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/nh/students/accomm/.
