The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia's premier learning and research institutions. It is the largest and oldest university in Queensland and has produced generations of graduates who have gone on to become leaders in all areas of society and industry. The University is a founding member of the national Group of Eight, an alliance of research-strong "sandstone" universities committed to ensuring that Australia has higher education institutions which are genuinely world class. In 2008, the Times Higher Education Supplement ranked UQ 43rd in the world and was the only Queensland university ranked in the top 50 world wide.

For high achieving students commencing a Bachelor Degree. Applications for these scholarships are invited from Australian school leavers including International Baccalaureate students.

To be eligible to apply for an Academic Scholarship, applicants must:

be an Australian Citizen, or a Permanent Resident of Australia or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa; and
be completing Year 12 in 2008; and
not have undertaken any previous tertiary study other than studies undertaken as part of Year 12 studies; and
have applied for a tertiary place through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC); and
be intending to undertake an undergraduate program of study as a full-time Commonwealth-supported student at The University of Queensland in 2009 (or 2010 if a deferment of your tertiary offer is approved).
Recipients of an Academic Scholarship must remain enrolled as full-time students of The University of Queensland to be eligible to receive their scholarship. Approval to undertake less than a full-time study load may be given in exceptional circumstances.
