Situated between Snowdon and the sea, Bangor is one of the most attractive study locations in the UK. Couple this with the chance to study a quality course at an established University and you can see why over 8,000 students from all over the world have chosen to study here.

Established in 1884, Bangor has a long tradition of academic excellence that continues to this day. Over half of the departments assessed to date in the teaching quality assessments have achieved the top rating of 'excellent'.
We have notable specialisms including ocean science, psychology, environmental sciences, education, sports science and computer science, many of which have been recognised for excellence in research.

Bangor is an ancient cathedral city situated between Snowdonia and the sea. Most of the University buildings are a short walk from the city centre which has two modern shopping centres and a mix of national chain stores and smaller shops. There is a further retail area including Safeway in upper Bangor where most of the Halls are located.
Bangor offers many specialist restaurants, including Indian, Italian and vegetarian. There are many cafe-bars and pubs. It also has a theatre, a cinema, a swimming pool, art gallery and museum.
In such a compact city, all the amenities are just a short walk away. Market research shows that the cost of living in Bangor is much lower than in many other parts of the UK. According to The Independent's A - Z of Universities and Higher Education Colleges, Bangor is "one of the cheapest places in Britain". Bangor also has much lower crime rates than other University locations in Britain.
Faculty
Number of Faculty Staff FTE: 566
Total number of academic faculty staff who are responsible for planning, directing and undertaking teaching only, research only or both teaching and research. Please include: vice-chancellors, deputy vice-chancellors, principals, professors, heads of school, associate professors, principal lecturers, tutors or postdoctoral researchers. Please exclude research assistants*, PhD students who contribute to teaching, and exchange scholars or visiting faculty staff who are members of another university. * The important distinction for us is that staff counted as 'research only' should be academically involved in that research and should be likely to publish research outputs. A research assistant, in our understanding, is any individual who is not doing own research and is therefore not likely to publish own research outputs. Said individual is (only) involved in research in terms of operation execution , such as lab technician or equipment operator.
Number of International Faculty Staff FTE: 108
Number of academic faculty staff who are of foreign nationality. The term 'international' is hereby determined by citizenship. For EU countries, this includes all foreign nationals, even if from another EU state. In Hong Kong, this includes professors from Mainland China. Inclusion and exclusion mirrors those for academic faculty staff. In case of dual citizenship, the 'deciding' criteria should be 'citizenship obtained through birth', basically first passport obtained.
