About WU

With more than 24,000 students, WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) is the largest economics and business university in the European Union. It is known for its comprehensive selection of fields and numerous specializations in teaching and research. Its excellent academic credentials and the practical relevance of its programs, together with excellent job prospects for its graduates, all make WU an attractive choice for students from all over the world. 23% of WU's students are international, mainly coming from the Central and Eastern European region.
The WU-faculty is made up of 12 academic departments and 14 interdisciplinary research institutes. Strategic emphasis is placed on research in finance, business law, and Central and Eastern Europe the later through the Compentence Center for CEE.
WU is well-known for its unique entrepreneurial and collaborative culture, and its truly international spirit, and WU professors play key roles as innovators and peers in a variety of scientific communities.


EQUIS accreditation as hallmark of highest educational quality

In February 2007, WU became the first Austrian university and one of only four universities in the German-speaking world to be granted EQUIS accreditation (European Quality Improvement System). This prestigious distinction has been awarded only to approximately a hundred of the world's best universities. WU's accreditation with the EQUIS quality assurance seal ensures international recognition for its innovative university management and high-quality teaching, and further enhances the appeal of degrees awarded by WU in the business and academic world.

Financial Times Ranking

WU's degree program in International Business Administration came in at an excellent 18th place in the 2008 Masters in Management Ranking for Europe, up a remarkable 16 places from 34th in 2007. This ranking puts WU in the same league as renowned schools. WU is positioned at a respectable 41st place in the international ranking of the Top 60 Business Schools. The Financial Times has also ranked the internationally-oriented Master in International Management/CEMS with its high degree of practical relevance at an excellent third place among Europe's finest master programs. The Executive MBA (EMBA) offered by the WU Executive Academy was the first Austrian MBA ever to be ranked by the Financial Times, and in 2008 made it straight to place 52 of the 100 best MBA programs worldwide.

International networks

WU's network of over 215 partner universities is one of the largest such networks worldwide. As one of the leading business universities in the German-speaking world, WU is also a member of well-known and respected associations like CEMS (Global Alliance in Management Education) and PIM (Partnership in International Management).
