Overview
Deakin University was established in 1974. It has four modern campuses located in the vicinity of Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road: one in metropolitan Melbourne, two in the bayside town of Geelong, and one in the picturesque regional seaside centre of Warrnambool. These campuses provide students and researchers with access to the latest industry-standard facilities such as Deakin's Motion.Lab at the Melbourne Campus and the Geelong Technology Precinct at the Geelong Campus, Waurn Ponds.
Deakin University has a strong international focus: around 7,900 (approximately 19%) of its 42,000 student body are from over 60 countries worldwide. Hundreds of Deakin Universitys students and staff travel overseas every year to participate in work placements, exchanges, study tours, volunteering and activities under Deakins landmark Global Citizenship Program.
Deakin has a very high level of involvement with industry partners in areas such as course design, R&D, innovation and internship opportunities in many courses. Facilities and environment
Deakins main campus is in Melbourne, which was recently recognised as the 4th most liveable city in the world for students (QS Best Student Cities Guide 2012). The other three campuses offer modern, state-of-the-art facilities, innovative programs and a relaxed regional lifestyle close to the Great Ocean Road, one of the most picturesque regions in Australia. Three of Deakins four campuses have fully furnished on-campus student accommodation.

Global Engagement
Deakin University offers its local and international students a wide range of opportunities to engage globally including Exchange, Study Abroad, short-term study programs, study tours and international volunteering opportunities that allow students to study overseas for a few weeks, a trimester, or a year as part of their Deakin degree. Deakin is proud of its landmark Global Citizenship Program, which formally recognises students individual and proactive engagement with the international community.
Commercial focus
Deakins commercial focus is reflected in its engagement with industry and in the extensive industry experience and relationships of its Faculties and staff. Many courses include internship opportunities so that students can gain real world experience to increase their work-readiness upon graduation.
