Karolinska Institutet is one of the world´s leading medical universities and home of the Nobel Assembly where 50 professors each year select the Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine. The university holds this honourable task since 1901. Karolinska Institutet was founded by King Karl XIII in 1810 as an academy for the training of skilled army surgeons.
Today, Karolinska Institutet is a modern medical university and one of the foremost in the world. It is consistently ranked in the top 50 universities globally and among the top five medical universities in Europe. Karolinska Institutet accounts for over 40 per cent of the medical academic research conducted in Sweden and offer the country´s broadest range of education in medicine and health sciences. Karolinska Institutet offers eight Global Master’s programmes, one Global Bachelor's programme and a number of single subject courses that are taught entirely in English.
Furthermore, over 350 students take their PhD degree each year at Karolinska Institutet, after studies corresponding to four years of full-time study.
