Manchester Metropolitan University is one of the largest and most popular universities in the UK. With a history dating back over 150 years, the university has a combination of the traditional and the contemporary, giving it a distinct character. International Student Support

On arrival in the UK, there will be a welcome team to greet you at the airport and transport you directly to your accommodation. You will be welcomed to the University with a diverse programme of activities designed to help you settle in and make friends, and prepare you for your studies in the UK.

During your time at the university we offer a range of services including careers advice and welfare and immigration guidance. In addition, you will have a personal tutor to support your learning.

Free English language classes and one-to-one tutorials are available for all our international students at the university. Delivered by qualified and experienced tutors these classes focus on the skills needed for high quality academic writing, listening, reading and speaking, as well as grammar instruction.

English Language Support

Run by highly qualified, experienced tutors, our Centre for Academic English offers a variety of courses to prepare students for their studies, whatever their current English abilities.
To make sure students get the best tuition we limit class sizes to 18 maximum. There is also a social programme to help students make new friends - and they are welcome to use the University's many facilities.

English language classes for international students at all levels are also available for those studying at MMU. The classes take place in Autumn and Spring terms. Students can attend a class on any campus on any day of the week.

Accommodation

Excellent accommodation is available to suit every budget. We have en-suite rooms or standard rooms with shared bathrooms, in catered and self-catering halls. We also provide you with high-speed internet access, laundry facilities and fully equipped communal kitchens. All our halls have a 24-hour security presence, so you can feel safe at home.

Finance and Scholarships

MMU has a comprehensive scholarship programme for international students. In 2011 we allocated around £200,000 for international scholarships.

The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit; what an applicant expects to gain from the course they are taking and what they intend to do after completing their course.
