Described by The Sunday Times as 'an intellectual powerhouse with a world-class reputation', UCL is consistently ranked as one of the top three multifaculty universities in the UK and features in the top 5 universities worldwide.

UCL is a multidisciplinary university with an international reputation for the quality of its research and teaching across the academic spectrum, with subjects spanning the sciences, arts, social sciences and biomedicine. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) UCL was rated the best research university in London, and third in the UK overall, for the number of its submissions which were considered of world-leading quality. The RAE confirmed UCLâ??s multidisciplinary research strength with outstanding results achieved across the subjects, ranging from Biomedicine, Science and Engineering, and the Built Environment to Laws, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities.

Teaching at UCL is 'research-led', meaning that the programmes we offer reflect the very latest research and are often taught by academic staff members who are world-leaders in their fields. UCL has one of the best staff-student ratios in the UK and places a strong emphasis on small group teaching.

As well as being dynamic and intellectually challenging, UCL offers a very cosmopolitan and international environment in which to study. Over 30% of our students are from outside the UK, coming from nearly 140 different countries. UCL also attracts academic staff from around the globe, and international staff and students alike are welcomed for the different perspectives and diversity they bring to teaching and learning at UCL.

Basic TOEFL/IELTS

UCL accepts IELTS (International English Language Test) :
- –An overall score of 7.5 is required with marks in the sub-test of 6.5
TOEFL:
- An overall score of 267 plus 5 in essay writing
- Internet- based version (advance level with an overall score of 109, plus 24/30 in the reading and writing subtests and 20/30 in the listening and speaking subtests
- A total of 630 in the paper-based version plus 5.0 in the test of written English (TWE) however TWE is not offered on every paper-based TOEFL test date.

English Language Support

The UCL Language Centre offers a range of approved English language courses, including pre-session courses, a Graduate Preparatory course and a Diploma in English for Academic Purposes.
The Language Centre also runs part-time in-session English language courses for students enrolled at UCL. Courses available include general academic English support as well as a range of courses in more specialised areas, such as academic writing tailored to graduate students, presentation skills and so on.

Accommodation

UCL guarantees all single first-year undergraduates a residential place, irrespective of their permanent home address. Three-quarters of UCL accommodation is within a 10 to 15-minute walk of the institute. The institute have two types of accommodation: Halls of Residence, in which meals are included, and student houses, in which there are shared kitchen facilities for candidates to prepare meals.

Some residences are purpose-built, while others are older, period buildings which have been modernised and adapted. Most student rooms are single study-bedrooms, equipped with a bed, desk, chairs, washbasin, cupboard and bookcase. Most residences now have computer data points connected to the UCL network.

Finance and Scholarships

University College London offers the Master of the Rolls Scholarship to Commonwealth students only. On the other hand the following scholarships are offered to overseas students outside the European Union:
- UCL UPC Progression Scholarship - £5,000 p.a. for the duration of the undergraduate degree for UCL UPCSE/UPCH students admitted for undergraduate study at UCL
- UCL Faculty Undergraduate Scholarships for Excellence - £3,000 for first and second-year undergraduate students
- Eliahou Dangoor Scholarships £1,000 UK for home students entering their first year of UG study in September 2011 undertaking a STEM subject (science, technology, engineering or maths)
- Santander "1-UCL" Excellence/Endeavour Awards £1,000 donation to a charity of the winners' choice Students currently enrolled at UCL
- Denys Holland Undergraduate Scholarship £9,300 p.a. for a maximum of 3 years in total Prospective UCL undergraduates in financial hardship Scholarship currently closed, re-opens 2012/13
- UCL – Africa Educational Trust Undergraduate International Outreach Bursaries Tuition Fees, maintenance, international economy travel and further benefits for prospective UCL undergraduates, nationals & residents of Africa, schooled in Africa, who lack the financial means to study at UCL. Apply for admission by January latest.
- UCL - United World Colleges Undergraduate International Outreach Bursaries Tuition Fees, maintenance, international economy travel and further benefits for final-year UWC students (except UWC KaMhlaba) liable to pay overseas tuition fees, admitted to UCL for undergraduate studies, who lack the financial means to study at UCL. Apply for admission by January latest.
- UCL Hong Kong Alumni Scholarships -£10,000 toward fees for a maximum of four years Prospective UCL undergraduates resident in Hong Kong and other regions of the People's Republic of China Deadline is 1st April 2011
- Wellcome Trust Vacation Scholarships Weekly stipend of £190 for the duration of the project work up to 8 weeks for current students from a university in the UK or Ireland in the middle year(s) of their undergraduate degree in science, dentistry or medical degree, on a summer placement on a biomedical research project at UCL. - Schools Competition Act Settlement Trust Awards Bursaries and project awards of varying value Students having attended one of the Trust's list of schools
- Cochlear Graeme Clark Scholarship € 6,00. Candidates eligible are nucleus implant recipients admitted to or enrolled at UCL
Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan Various amounts dependent upon scheme and country eligible for Commonwealth students and academics pursuing graduate study (or for undergraduate study in exceptional circumstances) in other commonwealth countries.

Entry Requirements

University College London admits candidate after reviewing academic ability and intellectual maturity. The College requires first class honours or high upper second-class honours with a minimum average of 65% and some evidence of first class ability, in a qualifying law degree from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Graduates with an upper second-class qualifying law degree and substantial relevant experience are also welcome to apply.
Graduates whose first degree is not in law will be considered for admission if they have a first class honours or a high upper second-class honours degree, or overseas equivalent, AND at least a high Merit pass, normally with a minimum average of 65%, in the Common Professional Examination (Graduate Diploma in Law) recognised by the UK professional bodies.
