Universidad Autónoma de Madrid

Introduction to Universidad Autónoma de Madrid

The Autonomous University of Madrid has approximately 36,000 students and is one of the main universities in the capital city. The university is based around the Cantoblanco Campus, which is situated 15 km to the north of the Madrid, near Alcobendas, San Sebastián de los Reyes, Tres Cantos and Colmenar Viejo.

The university is organized into seven schools (called facultades), which include: Philosophy and Arts, Psychology, Law, Science, Business and Economics, Education, and Biology. In addition, it has administrative services; a sports center; the Institute of Educational Sciences, Music and Languages; and a primary school. All classes are conducted entirely in Spanish, usually meet for three hours per week, and tend to be lecture-style with limited student/professor interaction. Class size varies considerably.

Because of its location, the University is always at the centre of life in the capital; it is an ideal place for foreign students to experience life in one of Europe's most vibrant cities.
