Overview

USI Università della Svizzera italiana (also known as University of Lugano) is a member of the Swiss university system and the only Italian-speaking university in Switzerland. It is a multi-lingual university with courses taught in Italian and English and it has a strong international orientation. USI’s faculty and students come from at least 80 different countries and was also among the first universities in Switzerland to adopt the new European university structure that encourages students’ mobility across European campuses.

USI comprises 4 Faculties: Architecture, Economics, Communication Sciences and Informatics. With its geographical, political and cultural background USI has grown into a multilingual academic institution with a wide international atmosphere. USI’s small size, its positive teacher-to-students ratio, the integration of different disciplines and top-quality technical and IT infrastructure make up the ideal conditions for study and research.  

 The University of Lugano offer students an ideal set up for university life, with state of the art infrastructure, top quality study-rooms, computer labs accessible day and night, advanced technologies for teaching, parks, canteen, and cafeteria which all ads to a friendly, familiar and safe environment.

Students who graduate from the University of Lugano have no difficulty in findings jobs and positions adequate to their title and expectations thanks to the university’s cross-disciplinary education and diverse curriculum. The courses are increasingly focused as the course of study takes a specific direction, and this creates highly specialized professionals in their distinctive areas of expertise.

The University of Lugano has two campuses located in Lugano and Mendrisio. The Lugano campus is located in the heart of Lugano and hosts the USI Faculties of Communication Sciences, Economics and Informatics, as well as the University central administrative offices and library.

USI’s Mendrisio campus hosts the Academy of Architecture. Its two main buildings are Villa Argentina, a neo-classical palace surrounded by a century-old park, and Palazzo Turconi, originally the town hospital. Both have been completely remodelled to meet the needs of students, faculty and staff.
