About University of Bari

The University of Bari Aldo Moro (UniBa) has played a leading role since 1925 in providing access to higher education and in supporting the cultural, scientific, and economic development of the region. UniBa is one of the main academic hubs in Southern Italy and serves as a point of reference for the entire Mediterranean area. As a large, comprehensive university with over 40,000 enrolled students and a broad disciplinary structure (19 departments), UniBa is a scientific community of around 1,500 faculty members and researchers, along with a similar number of technical and administrative staff. It offers a modern educational environment, ideal for the development of excellent research and for strengthening the country’s competitiveness.

UniBa is a university deeply rooted in Southern Italy, combining tradition and innovation, with a strong focus on research, internationalization, regional engagement, and the human and professional development of its students.

UniBa’s scientific output is steadily and significantly growing. Over the past ten years, scientific productivity has nearly doubled (+190%), with a predominance of contributions in the fields of Medicine, Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Physics and Astronomy, and with a strong international orientation.

UniBa’s research activity is closely integrated with regional development and is structured along the pathways of digital and ecological transition, in line with the guidelines of the European Commission, the Horizon Europe programme, and the 2021–2027 National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNR). The University plays a prominent role in national and international research projects in strategic areas such as quantum computing, environmental protection and natural disaster management, in silico medicine, omics data analysis, and fundamental research. These activities also benefit from the advanced computational infrastructures of the ReCaS Data Center in Bari, developed in collaboration with the National Institute for Nuclear Physics and ranking as the second most powerful data center in Italy in terms of computing capacity.

Third Mission activities are also particularly strong, with active participation in 98 associations and collaborative bodies, 25 spin-offs (13 university spin-offs and 12 accredited ones), 6 Technological Districts, and 73 patents filed and published in Italy and Europe. UniBa plays a central role in strengthening dialogue with the productive system, promoting collaborations with companies, entrepreneurial training, and continuous upskilling of Public Administration personnel, particularly in digital transition processes. Within this framework, the University represents a strategic hub where research laboratories and innovation centers integrate with the economic system and higher education.

UniBa aims to reaffirm and strengthen its role not only as a place for the production and transmission of knowledge, but also as a central actor in economic development, social cohesion, and the promotion of rights, capable of making a tangible impact on the future of people and the territories in which it operates.
