The University of Tasmania (UTAS) was established in 1890, making it the fourth-oldest university in Australia - a true 'sandstone' university. Our sense of tradition also carries through into the value that the staff place on the educational experience for their students.
Students at UTAS discover that Tasmania is a gateway to the world. Through our international student exchange program, opportunities for fieldwork and practical internships, and interaction with the international research activity of many of our teaching staff, you can become part of a global community. UTAS has a population of over 26,000 students, drawn from more than 70 countries around the world.
UTAS is a medium-sized university, large enough to be bursting with opportunity and small enough to keep that opportunity within reach. Our students have ready access to world-class facilities and academic staff who are leaders in their fields.
UTAS is one of the top ten research universities in Australia and is well-known for its distinctive science-based programs, strong research capabilities and a wealth of programs with over 100 undergraduate degrees, in traditional and specialised disciplines.
