It is the largest higher education institution by student population in the department with 21,070 students and a faculty of 542 full-time equivalent professors.The university was established by the ordinance No. 24 of 1941 as the Institute of Technology of Atlántico.
The university has five campuses in the departament. The main one known as the North Campus, two satellite campuses known as the Downtown Campus and the School of Arts, The Suan Campus and the Sabanalarga Campus. The university offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including a diverse range of engineering programs, as well as business management, law, education, fine arts, and several other areas of study.
