Universidade Federal da Bahia

The Federal University of Bahia (Universidade Federal da Bahia – UFBA) is a public, tuition-free federal university founded in 1946 and headquartered in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. In 2026, UFBA celebrates its 80th anniversary as one of the leading comprehensive universities in Northeastern Brazil.

UFBA operates in Salvador, Vitória da Conquista and Camaçari and offers programmes across all major fields of knowledge. According to the most recent institutional data, the University offers 110 undergraduate degree programmes and 151 stricto sensu postgraduate courses at master's and doctoral levels. It serves more than 39,000 undergraduate students and over 8,200 postgraduate students, combining education, research, innovation, extension, arts and culture.

As a comprehensive and research-intensive institution, UFBA plays a major role in the scientific, technological, social, artistic and cultural development of Bahia and Brazil. Its academic community maintains extensive national and international research networks, while the University remains strongly connected to the social, economic and cultural challenges of its region.
