Biomedical Chemistry
Program Description
This degree provides advanced level training in the principles and practices of chemistry and the fundamental principles of biochemistry and genetics, including advanced topics such as immunology and neurobiology. The degree is taught jointly by the Departments of Chemistry and Biological Sciences, approximately 75% Chemistry and 25% Biology, and reflects the Departmentâs research interests in biological aspects of chemistry, including enzymology, glycobiology, natural product biosynthesis, biological mass spectrometry, bio-inorganic chemistry, and computational chemistry. The chemical and biological content of this course is suitable for those who wish to apply for graduate entry to medical school degrees, such as the four-year MBChB degree offered by the Warwick Medical School. This degree is also suitable for those whose career plans are outside medicine or research, but where a scientific training at the chemistry/biology interface is highly valued.
Students are able to take an intercalated year in industry, between Year Two and Year Three and may transfer to the four-year Chemical Biology degree stream (FC11) at any time during Year One.
