Computer and Information Engineering (BEng)
Program Description
There are now far more computers on our planet than there are people. The vast majority of these are not stand-alone computers (such as desktop PCs or large mainframes) but are components within other systems. Computers are used in MP3 players; the engine management systems of cars; aircraft navigation systems; and almost all forms of automatic control systems. All these applications require the processing of information in one form or another and in some cases use large quantities of data such as databases or distributed information systems (including the Internet).
The School of Engineering at Warwick has an enviable reputation as one of the top unified engineering departments in the UK. Computer & Information Engineering combines the study of hardware, software, engineering systems and information engineering, in a holistic form that is not offered by most universities. At Warwick, both teaching and project work build on the considerable research strengths within the school in areas such as communications, media technology, microcomputer systems, signal processing, image processing and smart sensors. You will also have access to up-to-date laboratories and computer-aided design facilities that will enable you to design, fabricate and test digital systems. The School of Engineering has strong links with a wide range of industrial organisations, such as major automobile and aerospace manufacturers, and international electronics companies. These help to provide an exciting environment for study and project work throughout the degree courses.
