English Literature
Program Description
The central modules in this degree study the development of literary culture in Britain since the Middle Ages, with a particular focus on poetry and on Renaissance and seventeenth-century literature and theatre. Students can also take a number of modules exploring critical theory and the great European literary genres â for example the Epic and the Novel â in order to locate English Literature in broader intellectual and historical contexts. All students have the chance to study a foreign language in the first year, and they may take this comparative work further through their choice of options.
