Arizona State University is one of the premier metropolitan public research universities in the nation. ASU is research-driven but focused on learning—teaching is carried out in a context that encourages the creation of new knowledge. ASU maintains a tradition of academic excellence in core disciplines, and has become an important global center for innovative interdisciplinary teaching and research.

ASU is one university in many places. In addition to the historic Tempe campus, a college town in the midst of a dynamic metropolitan region, the university comprises two newer campuses: ASU at the West campus, in northwest Phoenix adjacent to Glendale, and ASU at the Polytechnic campus, in Mesa. Additionally, ASU is conceptualizing and designing a fourth campus to be located in downtown Phoenix. ASU at the Downtown Phoenix campus is part of a larger plan to revitalize and redevelop the cityÂ’s urban core. ASU envisions the downtown Phoenix campus to serve 10,000 to 15,000 students with an active 24/7 environment that includes academics, housing, retail, and cultural programs and entertainment.

ASU seeks to provide the best possible education to the broadest possible spectrum of society, embracing the educational needs of the entire population. By the year 2020, ASU is projected to enroll 90,000 students. The university champions diversity, and is international in scope, welcoming students from all 50 states and nations across the globe. ASU is an active partner with the private sector in initiatives to enhance the social well-being, economic competitiveness, cultural depth, and quality of life of metropolitan Phoenix and the state.
