Hitotsubashi University is a national educational institution under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. It is the only university in Japan to specialize exclusively in the humanities and social sciences.
The academic organization of the University consists of the four undergraduate faculties of Commerce, Economics, Law, and Social Sciences; graduate schools in the same fields as the undergraduate faculties as well as the two additional programs of International Corporate Strategy and Language and Society; the Institute of Economic Research; and the Institute of Innovation Research. Currently, Hitotsubashi holds a teaching staff of about 630 individuals, with approximately 6100 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate courses. Also, there are some 480 international students, along with about 370 researchers from abroad that the University welcomes each year for academic exchange and cooperation with foreign institutions.
