In 1875, Hitotsubashi University was founded in Kunitachi, the suburbs of Tokyo. Hitotsubashi is recognized as one of the leading academic institutions in the world through quality education and research. The University specializes in the social sciences and humanities, subsuming fields such as management, finance, economics, law, and international relations. The University is composed of four faculties, i.e., Faculties of Commerce and Management, Economics, Law, and Social Sciences, and seven graduate schools, i.e., Graduate Schools of Commerce and Management, Economics, Law, Social Sciences, Language and Society, International Corporate Strategy, and Hitotsubashi School of International and Public Policy. Additionally, Hitotsubashi University School of Law was established in 2004.

Drawing on the UniversityÂ’s history and accomplishments, Hitotsubashi has promoted the study of leading-edge social science research expected to be in demand in the 21st century. As an education and research center of worldwide focus, Hitotsubashi aims to provide theoretical and practical solutions to important issues shared by Japan, Asia, and other countries. In order to realize these aims, Hitotsubashi is pursuing three missions: 1) Exploring and creating new areas within the social sciences, 2) Making intellectually and practical contributions to Japan and abroad, and 3) Nurturing intellectually advanced individuals, innovators, and political and economical leaders.

Accommodation

Two university-housing options are available for international students.
-- Hitotsubashi University’s International Housing is located on campus. The International Housing has 54 rooms for single students, 6 rooms for married couples and 10 rooms for families.
-- International Village of Hitotsubashi University is located off campus. This
dormitory accommodates not only international and Japanese students of
Hitotsubashi University, but also international students of other universities. Currently, Hitotsubashi University has 175 rooms for single international students, 9 rooms for international married couples and 6 rooms for international families.

Entry Requirements

1. An applicant must complete or is expected to complete 12 years of education abroad.
2. An applicant is required to take the three subject tests of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) conducted by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) - Japanese as a Foreign Language,
Japan and the World, and Mathematics (Course 1) - in either Japanese or English, and obtain a total score of over 600.
3. An applicant has to take TOEFL, IELTS, or TOEIC, and obtain scores as follows:
TOEFL: Minimum 460 (PBT)/ 140 (CBT)/ 48 (iBT)
IELTS: Minimum 4.0
TOEIC: Minimum 500
