The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) aspires to become a world class university with emphasis on applied research and academic programmes. It is the largest publicly-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong in terms of number of students, with 26,000 full-time and part-time students, and a vast pool of close to 260,000 graduates.

According to an independent survey, PolyU graduates have been hailed for possessing the highest practical value, and have been ranked "most preferred" by recruiters.

The University's academic units are grouped under six Faculties and two Schools, namely, the Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles, Faculty of Business, Faculty of Communication, Faculty of Construction and Land Use, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Health and Social Science, School of Design, and School of Hotel and Tourism Management. With more than 1,000 academic and research staff from different parts of the world, the University runs more than 150 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

PolyU is the sole provider of a number of unique programmes in Hong Kong, namely design, engineering physics, fashion and textiles, geomatics, international shipping and transport logistics, medical laboratory science, occupational therapy, optometry, physiotherapy and radiography.

Leveraging its research strengths, PolyU is making significant contributions to the global economy with its applied research and expanding range of consultancy.

Among these are, notably, the world's first palm-print recognition system, the world's first "sweating" manikin and the world's first fibre optic sensor system for "Smart Railway" systems. PolyU has also obtained official approval to establish the first and the only State Key Laboratory set up on the mainland to focus on Chinese medicine, known as the State Key Laboratory for Chinese Medicine and Molecular Pharmacology.

The University has developed an extensive network with about 500 partner institutions located across some 35 countries. To cultivate the global outlook of students and encourage cross-cultural exchange, the University partners with over 200 universities across more than 25 countries for its student exchange programme.

PolyU is also the leader of Hong Kong and overseas universities in offering the largest number, 17 in total, of external programmes accredited by the State Ministry of Education in mainland China. Since 1997, the University has established five outpost centres on the mainland in Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Xi'an and Wuhan.

The five-point numerical scale is typically correlated with the A-F/A-E quality index. (A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, E or F = 0.0) In our context, a value of 0 will imply to us that your institution has an "open access" admissions policy and will in no way count against your institution in any future table built upon this data. You can use World Education Services (WES) Toolkit as guidline: http://www.wes.org/gradeconversionguide/index.asp (copy and paste)
