Universidad de Belgrano was established on 11th September 1964 following the 1958 Law 14.557 that permitted the creation of private universities in the Argentina and regulated how they should function. The UB first opened on the corner of Sucre & Cramer Streets in “Belgrano Town”. It had ninety students, twenty-eight faculties and one administrative staff-member.

On 26th February 1970, following an assessment conducted by the Ministry of Culture and Education and its consultation with the respective academic authorities of the National Academies whose fields were represented at the UB, the President of the Nation granted the university formal governmental recognition.

Initially the UB was organized into four faculties: Law & Social Sciences; Humanities; Economics; and Architecture.
From 1971 the UB began to expand its academic departments to include.

·1976: Faculty of Technology
·1979: Graduate School
·1984: Faculty of Agrarian Sciences
·1987: Distance Learning Unit
·1988: School of Economics and International Commerce
·1992: Faculty of Languages and International Studies
