After a recent period of growth in portfolio and population, the University of Hull now boasts more than 22,270 students.
The University has two campuses; one of these is in Scarborough, only a few minutes from the beach and the main campus in Hull which has been expanded to cover 127 acres. For overall attractiveness the campus was recently voted in the top ten by a survey of first-year students across the UK.
Both the city and the university inspire strong loyalty among students, the University has secured a Top 10 position for student satisfaction for the three years since the National Student Survey has been in existence. In addition, Hull has received the accolade of being the friendliest University in the UK by friendsreunited.com.
The quality of the courses and the highly automated library, together with a high standard of sports and entertainment facilities have much to do with HullÂ’s popularity with students, coupled with the relatively low cost of living and the good quality accommodation.
The Medical School formed in conjunction with York University, will graduate its first students this year. The Logistics Institute, the only one of its kind in the north of England, is the most recent addition to the Hull campus and forms part of the UniversityÂ’s business quarter, which incorporates the Business School and an Enterprise Centre, due to open this summer.
Hull has always maintained an equal balance between science and technology and the arts and social sciences. A long standing focus on Europe shows in the wide range of languages available at degree level, with the purpose-built Language Institute heavily used by students of all subjects. Strength in politics –confirmed by one of three grade 5 research rated department, as well as the teaching quality success – is reflected in a steady flow of graduates into the House of Commons.
Hull consistently ranks in the top handful of traditional universities in England in terms of proportion of state-educated students, and plays a pivotal role in efforts to improve educational opportunities in the region. Added to this is a significant international student population of 2,955 from 80 different countries and an increasingly diverse demographic which makes the University of Hull experience a strong contender when it comes to inclusion and diversity.
The University of Hull is committed to ensuring that anyone who is able to benefit from a university education should have that opportunity, regardless of their circumstances, and the University offers additional financial support to students in the form of bursaries and scholarships. Bursaries are designed to provide financial assistance for students so that they can attend university.
