Oxford Brookes offers a wide choice of undergraduate degrees. All of our courses are designed to help students gain valuable, practical skills and prepare them for employment. 

Teaching and learning

Oxford Brookes has a strong global reputation for teaching.  As well as being ranked sixth for teaching among the UK’s modern universities (Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2022), our staff have won 11 National Teaching Fellowships. The fellowships reflect our teaching staff’s enthusiasm, expertise, and willingness to look for new and fresh approaches to teaching.

Undergraduate students at Oxford Brookes have lots of opportunities to gain practical skills and hands-on experience. Most courses offer either work placements, or opportunities such as working on projects for real clients or learning with a mentor.

Support

Oxford Brookes provides lots of support for its undergraduate students. As a student at Brookes, you will have an academic adviser to guide you during your studies. All students can easily access study skills advice, and international students can take classes to perfect their academic English, including some credit-bearing classes. There is plenty of personal support available, too, and a dedicated International Student Advice Team (ISAT).

Applying to study at university can be a daunting process, particularly if you are doing it for the first time.

Our Headington Campus includes teaching spaces for all four of our faculties and main library. Visit the landmark John Henry Brookes Building, the School of the Built Environment in Abercrombie, and our most recently completed redevelopment project, Clerici Building, which houses the Oxford Brookes Business School.

Specialist facilities include purpose-built, industry-level engineering workshops, and high-spec computing and digital media facilities. For healthcare students, there are specialist clinical simulation suites. Completely refurbished facilities for Life Sciences include a large new teaching lab, ideal for cross-discipline working, new student-orientated spaces, and the Sinclair Annex, home to the Bioimaging Centre.

Accommodation


Oxford Brookes University offers a range of accommodation, including self-catered single study-bedrooms and studio apartments in student halls. If you make Oxford Brookes your firm choice, by the required deadline, you will be guaranteed a room in one of your five hall choices.  To find out more visit our How to Apply page.  

A number of halls offer accommodation specifically for postgraduate students and mature students (aged over 21).  

Students who’d prefer to live in shared houses can find accommodation through Brookes Lettings. The University can also give advice on finding private accommodation.

IT Facilities


IT facilities comprise over 1, 000 open-access PCs including more than 350 computers in the Headington library, plus free, self-service laptop loan in or near all Oxford Brookes’ libraries. There is also free Wi-Fi in halls of residence and across campus, and a virtual learning environment enabling you to study whenever and wherever suits you best.

Student life

City life

With up to 40,000 students in town, Oxford is a great place to live and learn – it’s young, diverse and energetic. Whether you’re looking for pubs or clubs, riverbanks or green spaces, busy markets with great street food or brand names in the Westgate, Oxford has it covered.   In terms of culture, the city has important museums like the Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers as well as contemporary art galleries (Modern Art Oxford), lots of venues for live music, and theatres ranging from bigger spaces like the Oxford Playhouse to more intimate ones like the Old Fire Station and the Pegasus. Oxford is home to many beautiful parks to relax in with friends, exercise or even revise in. What's more, Oxford is just over an hour away from other major cities including London and Bristol.

A hub for social activities, Brookes Union helps students get involved in the wider university life. Over 80 clubs and societies are run through the Union, giving you great opportunities to meet new people with shared interests. The Union also runs a bar on Headington Campus and works with partners to put on club nights and events. The Union’s other key purpose is providing students with support through its independent advice service.  

Sport

Oxford Brookes is a great university for sports. In particular, it’s a top university for rowing, with Brookes students and alumni having achieved Olympic successes.

Brookes Sport offers opportunities for everyone, whether you are looking to take up a new sport, get fit, or simply relax. Facilities include a gym, swimming pool, climbing wall, and regulation-size sports pitches for University fixtures.

Employability

Oxford Brookes’ courses connect students with the world of work. They enable you to develop workplace skills, and help open doors into those workplaces. Placements and the chance to work on live projects can help you build a store of experience and practical knowledge. Skills development is built into most courses, and staff will motivate you to take every chance to expand your abilities. Networking and mentoring schemes link students to business people and professionals who can offer tips and insights.

In fact, 91% of Brookes students are in employment and/or further study within six months of graduating (HESA Graduate Outcomes Survey 2018/19 – published July 2021), and many earn more than the UK average compared with those graduating from a similar course (Destination of Leavers of Higher Education).

And in 2020, full-time employed postgraduates earned on average £7,000 more than other graduates (UK government graduate labour market statistics 2021)

Careers Service

Oxford Brookes has a dedicated careers centre offering a range of services including help with job searching,  1-to-1 CV guide consultations, interview advice and employability training. The online portal allows you to search for jobs, from part-time work during your studies to graduate opportunities and internships.  

Careers support advice is available to our graduates for up to three years after graduating.
