About Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management (ULB)

In 1903, the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management (SBS-EM) was founded by Ernest Solvay, a Belgian industrialist and philanthropist.

Home to residents from 150 nationalities, Brussels is one of the world's most diverse cultural cities. Located in the cosmopolitan heart of Belgium and Europe, the institution has always held an international title for world-class education in management schools and economic schools.

Solvay Business School emphasises nurturing and growing internationalisation and their stakeholders – as of now, around 60% of students, 35% of faculty and 50% of administrative staff come from abroad. Learn more from the Dean’s welcome remarks.

As the faculty of Economics of Université libre de Bruxelles, SBS-EM, aims to lead economics and management, addressing economic, business and societal challenges positively. Partly, they rely heavily on quantitative research, resulting in pioneering discoveries as well as educating all individuals to become leaders and entrepreneurs.

Operating within the faculty, Solvay Lifelong Learning (SLL) is the best known and trusted executive education business school in Belgium on a mission to train business leaders and entrepreneurs with the ability to adapt to the ever-changing nature of society and to shape tomorrow’s world. SLL develops continuous education programmes addressing both young professionals as well as experienced managers and entrepreneurs committed to the logic of personal and sustainable development, covering management practices like General Management to more specialised disciplines like Leadership, Digital Transformation, Finance, Innovation, Marketing, and much more. Their portfolio includes Open Enrolment Programmes (including short seminars, executive masters, EMBA, and Advanced Masters) and Company-specific programmes (fully customised for companies).

The institution is proud to have obtained the gold standard of three major international accreditations – also known as the Triple Crown accreditation: AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS.

Solvay Brussels School was also among the successful applicants for funding, according to the results of the call for funding PhD students and postdoctoral researchers published on June 23 – granted by FNRS.

FAQs

Approximately 90% of Solvay graduates are employed within six months of graduation.
The student application is examined in advance with administration fees requested from both local and international applicants: students must pay €200 (£171.29) to the account details on the website.  Students can pay registration fees here once their registration form has been validated and their account has been activated.
For the executive programmes of Solvay Lifelong Learning, tuition costs vary per programme, and registrants may benefit from different reductions throughout the year (eg. EarlyBird discounts), or pertaining to their professional affiliations (eg. Partners’ discounts). Applicants of the Executive MBA may also apply for the programme’s United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Women Change-Agent scholarships, should they meet the required criteria. All Solvay Brussels Schools Alumni automatically benefit from a 10% reduction on their tuition should they register for an executive programme at SLL, as well.
The school's global approach is evident in their faculty, which is made up of renowned professors from around the world. More than 20% of Solvay students are from abroad and the ratio is much higher for MBA, PhD, and Master in Microfinance students.  Also, the institution offers a variety of international exchange programmes, enabling students to study abroad and gain a global perspective. It has an impressive list of international partnerships with leading universities and businesses, making it an attractive destination for international students.
For non-European students, all programmes (except PhD which accept applications through the winter to autumn term), have submission deadlines from the beginning of autumn to summer term. Please note that students who do not reside in a member country of the European Union are also eligible to apply on the same dates as their European counterparts.
Each study level has its own requirements. During the first year of bachelor studies, international students are subject to the criteria laid out by the admission board. Those applicants should make sure they meet the eligibility requirements before applying to the first year of a bachelor's programme, since administrative fees (€200) cannot be refunded. Click here for more specific non-EU student procedures.
Among the notable alumni are world-renowned names such as: Charles Michel (Belgian Politician), Amélie Nothomb (Belgian Francophone novelist), Peace Nobel Prize Winner Denis Mukwege (Congolese gynecologist and Pentecostal pastor) and Tatiana Silva (Belgian Model, crowned Miss Belgium in 2005).
