University College, Dundee (as it then was) was founded in 1881 with the forward looking mission of "promoting the education of persons of both sexes".
The University of Dundee, became an independent university in 1967 after a 70 year relationship with the University of St Andrews -now a key partner. The University doubled in size over recent years to 19,000 students and over 3,000 staff.
The University is organised in four colleges: Life Sciences; Arts and Social Sciences; Art, Science and Engineering and Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing.
There are three core campuses: the City Centre, the Ninewells Medical School a couple of miles away at one of Europe's largest teaching hospitals, and the Fife Campus at Kirkcaldy - 30 miles away - which is home to some of the Nursing and Midwifery students.
