The University of Surrey is an ambitious, research-intensive academic institution that sits at the heart of a dynamic international network of prestigious partners in Asia, the United States, Europe and South America.
Our research and study programmes range from aerospace to English literature, from nursing to nuclear physics, from business management to biochemistry. Our four Faculties cover Engineering & Physical Sciences, Health & Medical Sciences, Arts & Human Sciences; and Business, Economics & Law.
The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise confirmed Surrey as one of world's leading research centres, with 88% of our research activity rated either 'world class' or 'internationally recognised'. Four areas of research activity were placed in the top ten, and a total of nine areas were ranked in the top 20. Almost half of Surrey's assessed research staff work in areas that have been ranked in the top ten.
Our undergraduate programmes are also highly rated, Ranked 12th overall in The Guardian University Guide 2013, and The Times Good University Guide 2012 ranking nine of our subject areas in the top ten, and 15 in the top 20. "Surrey has been one of the recent success stories of the university world" was The Times' conclusion.
We are proud of our strong links with business, industry and government. We believe in using the knowledge generated by our world-leading research activities to generate real solutions to real problems.
We challenge our undergraduates to think differently about their subjects. Students in all subject areas have the opportunity to enhance their career prospects by gaining impressive work experience with real employers through our pioneering Professional Training programme. "If an unrivalled graduate employment record is what you are looking for, the University of Surrey is just the job," said The Sunday Times University Guide 2010. "Surrey has the lowest graduate unemployment rate of any university in England."
We push our students to develop academically, intellectually and professionally. Their existing talents and achievements are given the edge that only an internationally connected university like Surrey can provide.
Our modern, landscaped campus sits between Guildford city centre and the beautiful Surrey Hills, with London and the South Coast both less than an hour away by train. Our Surrey Sports Park is a £36m investment, which gives our staff and students state-of-the-art sports facilities that few universities anywhere in the world can match, including a 50m swimming pool, a climbing centre, modern sports pitches and racquet-sport courts, a gym, and a sports hall.
With around 14,000 students from over 145 countries and an on-campus mix of Starbucks branches, shops, bars, restaurants, nightclubs and parkland, Surrey provides a vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere in which to study and prepare for the next stage in your career.
