La Trobe University is one of Australiaâs leading research and teaching universities and has an international reputation for academic excellence and innovation.
A multi-campus university, La Trobe was established in 1967 and now has seven campuses in Victoria, in the south-east of Australia. The University has more than 28,000 students, including approximately 4500 international students from over 90 countries, and 3,000 staff.
La Trobe University has a comprehensive academic profile with 425 degree programs offered through five faculties: the Faculty of Law and Management, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering.
The Universityâs courses and research programs are highly respected by employers and academic institutions both within Australia and internationally. Our research strategy promotes innovation, specialisation and collaboration. All faculties have extensive and diverse research programs and the University is home to over 30 research centres and institutes.
La Trobe University also has strong links to business, government, industry and local communities. It continues to engage with all stakeholders to ensure the relevance of its learning, teaching and research, and to deliver students outstanding graduate outcomes.
The Universityâs main Melbourne (Bundoora) campus is located 40 minutes from the city centre. Campus facilities and services include an outstanding academic library, accommodation, a sports centre, IT services, food and retail outlets, banking and medical services, careers and counselling services, and language and academic skills assistance.
La Trobe University is also one of the strongest providers of regional campus education in Australia with campuses in Bendigo, Albury-Wodonga, Shepparton and Mildura. This network provides learning opportunities and strong graduate outcomes for students in regional and rural areas and contributes significantly to the development of regional Victoria.
La Trobe University has a strong commitment to internationalisation and currently has over 200 international links in research, teaching and exchange. The University is a founding member of the International Network of Universities (INU), a consortium of universities which aims to encourage internationalisation via student and staff mobility, research collaboration and cooperation.
Faculty
| Number of Faculty Staff | Headcount: 1,326 FTE: 1,152 | Total number of academic faculty staff who are responsible for planning, directing and undertaking teaching only, research only or both teaching and research. Please include: vice-chancellors, deputy vice-chancellors, principals, professors, heads of school, associate professors, principal lecturers, tutors or postdoctoral researchers. Please exclude research assistants*, PhD students who contribute to teaching, and exchange scholars or visiting faculty staff who are members of another university. * The important distinction for us is that staff counted as 'research only' should be academically involved in that research and should be likely to publish research outputs. A research assistant, in our understanding, is any individual who is not doing own research and is therefore not likely to publish own research outputs. Said individual is (only) involved in research in terms of operation execution , such as lab technician or equipment operator. |
| Number of International Faculty Staff | Headcount: 441 FTE: 393 | Number of academic faculty staff who are of foreign nationality. The term 'international' is hereby determined by citizenship. For EU countries, this includes all foreign nationals, even if from another EU state. In Hong Kong, this includes professors from Mainland China. Inclusion and exclusion mirrors those for academic faculty staff. In case of dual citizenship, the 'deciding' criteria should be 'citizenship obtained through birth', basically first passport obtained. |
Undergraduate Information
| Number of Undergraduate Students | Headcount: 21,945 FTE: 17,646 | Number of students pursuing a Bachelor’s level or equivalent degree. This excludes certificates/diplomas and associate’s degrees. |
| Number of International Undergraduate Students | Headcount: 3,736 FTE: 2,787 | Number of undergraduate students who are foreign nationals. The term 'international' is hereby determined by citizenship. For EU countries, this includes all foreign nationals, even nationals of other EU states. In Hong Kong, this includes students from Mainland China. In case of dual citizenship, the 'deciding' criteria should be 'citizenship obtained through birth', basically first passport obtained. Please exclude all exchange students. As for language students, if the language students take up a particular language course that is outlined as 'undergraduate degree program' they should be included under 'international undergraduate students' . Language students who take part in a course not contributing to a degree qualification should be counted under 'Total International Students'. |
| Average International Undergraduate Fees | $ USD 10,864 | Average tuition fees per academic year (two semesters) that an international student would be expected to pay for an undergraduate program, with ‘program’ referring to the complete range of courses contributing to a degree.
