RAE 2008 confirms that more than 90 per cent of research at The University of Nottingham is of international quality, with almost 60 per cent of all research defined as 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent'.

Libraries
With over 14 libraries across all our campuses, the University has millions of books, manuscripts, journals and periodicals on loan. Our libraries are open 24 hours and provide inter-library loans as well as online journals. Library facilities include traditional reading areas where silence is the rule, as well as areas designated for group study and where refreshments are available for vital study breaks. Laboratories
Nottingham's recent appointment to the status of a 'Science City' is clearly supported by the world class facilities that can be found at the University and by the continued investment in laboratory accommodation and equipment, much of which is used to conduct ground breaking inter-disciplinary research. As a student you will also have access to these facilities.
Computer access
University-wide access to 24-hour computing facilities is made possible through a large number of Computer Resource Areas. All of our student accommodation is connected to the network and there is WiFi access for laptop users. [insert computer picture]
Sports facilities
University provides a fantastic chance for students and staff to try a huge range of activities using facilities on your doorstep. Opportunities to take part are available at all levels from elite athletes competing at the highest level to those just wanting to play a casual game with their friends or simply get fit and have fun doing it! With over 75 societies in the Athletic Union there is a great deal of choice for getting involved.
You will find multi-level gyms, sports halls, swimming pool, sports pitches and playing fields, boat houses and much more. The majority of facilities are situated on the beautifully landscaped University Park campus with pitches for the representative teams just opposite the University and further pitches situated at Grove Farm less than 3.5 miles away. Facilities are also provided at Sutton Bonington Campus and a new sports centre opened at Jubilee Campus in August 2005. There is also a boathouse for use by the Rowing Club situated approximately 500m downstream of Trent Bridge, next to Nottingham Forest Football Club. [insert sports picture]
Nottingham city has more sports facilities per head of population than anywhere else in Europe there are plenty of opportunities to both watch and join in a wide range of sports at world-class venues such as the National Ice Stadium and Britainâs National Watersports Centre.
The University of Nottingham is again confirmed in the intercontinental higher education elite, in global tables published this year (2008). The established world rankings index compiled by Shanghai Jiao Tong University ranks Nottingham 10th in the United Kingdom. The Times Higher World Rankings in 2008 place Nottingham in the Top 1% of all universities worldwide. The institution is now firmly established within the worldâs 100 best universities in both tables.

Accommodation
Choosing where you will live is an important consideration when you are off to university. At Nottingham you are guaranteed a room in University-arranged accommodation for up to three years of University arranged accommodation. Whether it�s catered halls or self-catered student villages, or the private sector � we�ll help you find somewhere that�s just right.
If you have a disability, or any specific personal requirements such as a medical condition or a preference for single sex accommodation, we can provide accommodation to suit your individual requirements. Catered halls
You have your own room in a hall with cooking done for you as part of your accommodation fee. Your room will also be cleaned every two weeks. Bedding is provided if required, free of charge, which you are responsible for laundering. Our team of hall staff will be busy in the background making sure you have everything you need, so you can get on with those important things at university � studying and socialising.
We have two catered sites to choose from � University Park and Jubilee Campus, which are home to a total of 14 catered halls. There are different room types available, depending on which location you choose.
Self-Catered halls
Great for coming and going as you please! You have your own room, typically in a shared flat with a kitchen/diner for making your meals. There are also self-contained en-suite studios available at one site.
Catered halls of residence (http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/nh/students/accomm/catered_halls/) provide a more 'home from home' service. 15 halls, accommodating around 4,000 students across the University Park, Jubilee and Sutton Bonington campuses, are owned and managed by the University. Three meals a day are provided as part of the accommodation fee with a varied menu that caters for a range of dietary requirements.
The self-catering student villages (http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/nh/students/accomm/self_catered_residences/) combine an independent lifestyle with a close-knit student community. There are over 2,000 self-catering places available in purpose-built flats, each housing four to seven students, across three sites. Each flat has its own study bedroom; kitchen and bathroom facilities are shared. Self-catering sites are owned by external developers who work in close partnership with Accommodation Services to ensure that the flats meet their high standards.
We can also help find accommodation for students who have specific requirements such as those with a partner or family, disability or special dietary requirements.
