For more than two centuries, the University of Pennsylvania has been committed to excellence in scholarship, research and service. From its highly regarded undergraduate, graduate and professional schools to its wide-ranging program of interdisciplinary research and scholarship, Penn takes pride in being a place where students and faculty can pursue knowledge without boundaries, a place where theory and practice combine to produce a better understanding of our world and ourselves.

We invite you to explore this great university and take advantage of all it has to offer.

Faculty

Number of Faculty Staff Headcount: 3,491 FTE: 3,072

Total number of academic faculty staff who are responsible for planning, directing and undertaking teaching only, research only or both teaching and research. Please include: vice-chancellors, deputy vice-chancellors, principals, professors, heads of school, associate professors, principal lecturers, tutors or postdoctoral researchers. Please exclude research assistants*, PhD students who contribute to teaching, hospital residents and exchange scholars or visiting faculty staff who are members of another university. * The important distinction for us is that staff counted as 'research only' should be academically involved in that research and should be likely to publish research outputs. A research assistant, in our understanding, is any individual who is not doing own research and is therefore not likely to publish own research outputs. Said individual is (only) involved in research in terms of operation execution , such as lab technician or equipment operator.

including University fellowships and teaching and research assistantships. Most incoming doctoral students
are awarded full support, including tuition, fees, a maintenance stipend, and health insurance. See the Graduate Catalog http://www.upenn.edu/grad/Awards.pdf for more information.

Kings College Fellowships . 2 available @ USD 18,500
These fellowships are normally held by fourth-year students, or sometimes fifth-year. They cover tuition, fees, and a stipend of $18,500 in exchange for service to Penn's undergraduate study-abroad program at Kings College.

Note that housing arrangements may be available through Kings or other housing offices with which the Undergraduate Chair has made special arrangements. But to be eligible for such housing you probably need to give an early commitment, perhaps by May or June. In the past, most of our Kings Fellows have found good housing situations by looking around on their own, though this has made for some anxious days and weeks upon arrival in London, where the housing market is notoriously tight.
Thouron Award . 5 available @ USD 0
The Thouron University of Pennsylvania British-American Exchange Program exists
for the promotion of better understanding and friendship between the people of the United Kingdom of
Great Britain and those of the United States of America and has funded the graduate education of more
than 600 U.S. and British students since its inception in 1961. It enables approximately five new students
a year from the University of Pennsylvania to pursue a degree program or its equivalent at any British institution.
Seniors and full-time students in any of the graduate/professional schools and recent graduates of
the University of Pennsylvania are eligible to apply. Recipients of the award are selected on the basis of outstanding
academic and personal qualities. The Thouron Award provides full tuition and fees, plus a generous
monthly stipend for living expenses. Thouron Awards are granted for one or two years depending on
the time required to earn a particular degree. The second year of funding is dependent on reports of satisfactory
progress after the first year. For programs expected to last more than two years, Thouron Fellows
must seek other support for the third and subsequent years. Applicants must seek admission to a British
institution independently. Thouron Awards may not be used to support dissertation research for University
of Pennsylvania doctoral degrees.

Fellowships, see the website at http://www.upenn.edu/curf, or write to the International Programs Office,
