The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia's premier learning and research institutions, ranked 41st in the world by the Times Higher Education Supplement in 2009. Students wishing to improve their English language and academic study skills can undertake intensive English language and academic communication training at the UniversityÃ¯Â¿Â½s Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education (ICTE-UQ).

Programs at ICTE-UQ are offered as stand-alone English language courses or taken prior to a UQ program. To qualify for admission to degree programs at UQ, students must meet minimum English language entry requirements.

Non-English Language Requirements

To be eligible to apply for an Academic Scholarship, applicants must:

be an Australian Citizen, or a Permanent Resident of Australia or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa; and
be completing Year 12 in 2008; and
not have undertaken any previous tertiary study other than studies undertaken as part of Year 12 studies; and

Recipients of an Academic Scholarship must remain enrolled as full-time students of The University of Queensland to be eligible to receive their scholarship. Approval to undertake less than a full-time study load may be given in exceptional circumstances.

Thomas Morrow Prize . 1 available @ USD 312: Awarded to an undergraduate student who writes the best essay on the specified topic. Well-presented honours theses may be submitted for consideration. The three topics which will rotate on an annual basis are: Australian literature; Australian exploration and history; Scientific inquiry in Australia.
UQ Sports Achievement Scholarships . 16 available @ USD 4,159: A number of UQ Sports Achievement Scholarships to students who are high academic achievers and who excel in their chosen sport. Sixteen scholarships will be awarded, eight of which are specifically available to students who excel in the sport of rugby union.
