The University of East Anglia admitted its first 87 undergraduate students in 1963 and it now attracts over 14,000 students from over 100 countries onto its choice of more than 300 courses of study.
The choice of �Do Different� as the University�s original motto was a deliberate signal that it was going to look at new ways of providing university education. At its heart was the principle of interdisciplinarity where related subjects are studied in combination with each other. This new way of studying made the University the natural home of new disciplines such as Environmental Science and Development Studies in which it rapidly became a world leader. It also developed the UK's first course in Creative Writing. More recently it has led to dynamic groupings of health schools that led to the University being selected to introduce one of the first new medical schools in the UK for more than 40 years. With 23 Schools of Study across Faculties of Science, Social Science, Health and Arts and Humanities the University offers the opportunity of a strong and well-rounded academic experience.
As well as a strong reputation for innovation the University provides a unique campus experience that has seen it voted into the top five of the National Student Survey for student satisfaction five years running. In addition to significant investment in academic facilities the campus boasts over 20 architectural awards and includes iconic buildings by Lord Norman Foster and Sir Denys Lasdun. A �17.5m Sportspark ranked top in the UK by the Times, the world famous Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and over 3,500 networked study bedrooms make the facilities on campus amongst the best.
The cultural and social opportunities on campus are completed by international literary festivals, public events and lectures and a reputation as one of the best University venues for gigs. Situated just 2.5 miles from the city centre of Norwich � with its combination of well preserved medieval buildings standing alongside shopping facilities ranked in the top five in the UK � the University of East Anglia offers an exceptional student experience for undergraduates.
