Economics (MRes)

Birkbeck's MRes Economics will prepare students to undertake MPhil/PhD or professional research by giving them the theoretical knowledge and analytical techniques they need. The course will also give students a solid understanding of economics through modules taught at Master's and MPhil level. Students can also specialise in a particular area of personal or professional interest via a range of option modules. After specialist training in research skills, each student will undertake a piece of independent research, supervised by one of Birkbeck’s academics and culminating in a dissertation of 10,000 to 12,000 words. This programme is suitable for those wanting to pursue a career in economics and finance, the civil service, journalism, politics and international development, or to conduct research professionally or for organisations including banks, think-tanks and consultancy firms.
