The BA Intercultural Communication and/with Language with Foundation Year allows students to study intercultural communication while at the same time improving your fluency in a foreign language. Students can choose between French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish and, for most of the languages, students can start the programme at the level of language learning that suits them. Students will attain a good level of competence in the language as well as learning about the culture of the language-speaking area, choosing from a range of modules covering literature, film, history, visual culture and philosophy, among other cultural fields. For the intercultural communication component students will learn about how communication practices differ across cultures and students will also be introduced to communication practices in various international and work-related contexts. Upon successful completion of the Foundation Year, students can automatically progress on to the three-year, full-time, evening study BA Intercultural Communication and/with Language. Graduates can pursue careers in international organisations and businesses, education, research or editing. This degree may also be useful in becoming a translator, magazine/newspaper journalist, editorial assistant or primary/secondary school teacher.
