Theatre Studies and English with Foundation Year (BA)

Birkbeck’s BA Theatre Studies and English with Foundation Year programme is suitable for those who are passionate about live performance and theatre practice and literature. Birkbeck’s location in Bloomsbury in London’s West End makes it an ideal place to study theatre and English. This programme will explore a diverse and exciting range of theatre and drama practices, theories, institutions, companies and artists from across the world, from Ancient Greece to the present day. Students will also receive essential training in performance analysis, theatre and performance history, cultural theory and research methods. Combining lectures, seminars and workshops, and visits to theatres and cultural institutions, there is no better place to pursue their love of theatre and English. Before proceeding to the main degree, students will spend their Foundation Year preparing themselves for a degree in the arts by improving their tudy and research skills and gaining arts-related knowledge and understanding. Students will also have the opportunity to take a language module as part of the Foundation Year. Graduates can pursue careers in education, marketing and public relations, the media and creative arts, or theatre. This degree may also be useful in becoming a journalist, arts administrator, charity officer, community arts worker or theatre director.
