What more excuse could you need to feast your eyes on these 10 beautiful images of India taken by talented Instagram users? Enjoy!
1. Kasol, Himachan Pradesh
@karishma
The first of our beautiful images of India depicts the alpine village of Kasol in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh. So-called for its proximity to the famous Himalayan mountain range, Himachal Pradesh has long been a haven for backpackers. Kasol is home to youth hostels and campsites, and is well equipped for anyone who fancies a spot of trekking while visiting India!
2. Jama Masjid of Delhi, Delhi
@hiro_92y
Just a short hop south brings us to the next of our stunning pictures of India. The Jama Masjid of Delhi is India’s largest mosque, and was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, whose architectural legacy also includes New Delhi’s Red Fort and the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra. It was completed in 1656 and cost one million rupees to build. The mosque remains a bold example of Indian Islamic architecture and its courtyard can accommodate more than 25,000 worshippers.
3. Jain Temple, Karnataka
@nisnurcan
The next of ourbeautiful images of India is from Karnataka in the south west. The state’s diverse ethnicities and languages have created a vibrant cultural mix of art, music, theatre and dance. Karnataka is considered by many to be the home of Indian classical music, and is a popular destination among those visiting India. Our selection of images of India reflects the country’s religiously diversity – here @nisnurcan’s picture shows one of several Jain temples in Karnataka.
4. Gatore Ki Chhatriyan, Jaipur
@namanmisri
The next of our pictures of India shows Gatore Ki Chhatriyan in Jaipur, the capital city of the northern state of Rajasthan. A popular destination for photographers who are visiting India seeking beautiful images, Jaipur is often known as India’s ‘Pink City’, after the pink buildings which characterize its Old City. Formerly used as a crematorium, Gatore Ki Chhatriyan is perhaps one of Jaipur’s lesser visited attractions, but is nevertheless rich in historical significance and beautiful architecture.
5. Mumbai, Maharashtra
@pratik543
South East Asia is known globally for its annual monsoon season, and the arrival of the rainy weather is one of many iconic images of India. Here an ordinarily busy Mumbai street has become a temporary canal, and a boy cools off by somersaulting into the water. The monsoon’s effects are just as transformative outside of the city, where swathes of parched land soon become lush and green in the wake of the weather. Refreshing!
6. Bangalore, Karnataka
@sol_te
In drier weather, the country’s bustling cities offer a vibrant experience to anyone visiting India. Bangalore is India’s third most populous city, with around 8.5 million residents. It has been compared to the US’s Silicon Valley, and is the capital of India’s booming technology industry. Bangalore remains a huge hit with tourists and students who are seeking the authentic urban Indian experience – how many iconic rickshaws can you spot here?
7. Goa, Western India
@the_lazy_left
Time for some rest and relaxation! The next of our beautiful images of India comes from Goa, on the county’s west coast. Its position on the shores of the Arabian Sea makes Goa a prime destination for tourists seeking a relaxed vibe, sandy beaches, unique biodiversity, and a diverse history which is still visible in the architecture of the area.
8. Ladakh, Northern India
@annika_gaida
Next in our selection of pictures of India is one of many sacred Buddhist sites in Ladakh, close to the northernmost tip of India. Historically the region was important as a convergence of trade routes between Tibet to the north, India to the south, and the rest of Kashmir to the west. More recently, the Indian government has promoted the area as a destination for tourists from around the world.
9. On the way to Goa
@shuttersoul
Have these beautiful pictures of India given you a hankering for some adventure? Well why not explore India with the help of its comprehensive rail network? Work on an Indian railway system began in the mid-nineteenth century, under pressure from the British colonial rulers of the time. By 1875, British companies had invested £95 million to build the system. It remains widely used today, carrying over eight billion passengers each year. All aboard!
10. The Taj Mahal, Agra, Uttar Pradesh
@hashtagexplorer
What better way to finish our list of beautiful images of India than with the Taj Mahal (literally: ‘crown of palaces’)? Completed in 1652, the Taj Mahal is actually a mausoleum, commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan to house the body of his wife. It remains a national symbol of India, and a reminder of its rich and varied past. The Taj Mahal remains one of the most popular destinations for those visiting India, attracting three million visitors each year. Perhaps soon you will be one of them!
