Every Emotion You’ve Felt Waiting for Game of Thrones to Return
By Mathilde Frot
Updated July 4, 2017 Updated July 4, 2017Winter has taken an awful long time to come, but, finally, Game of Thrones is set to return. The show’s seventh season starts on July 17, after a tantalising year-long wait and an incredibly gripping series of teaser trailers.
This year, the big-budget HBO fantasy drama enters its penultimate season with fans desperate to see what happens now Daenerys and her dragons are heading to Westeros. Will we get the big Lannister/Stark/Targaryen battle we’ve been waiting for? Will Dany get the chance to confront Cersei Lannister? Will Jon still be King in the North? The anticipation has been enough to drive a person crazier than the Mad King. Here’s a quick recap of how we’ve all coped with the show’s absence.
First, we were sad and filled the void left behind with similar (albeit worse) shows

Nothing quite compares to the rush and adrenaline of watching a particularly good episode of Game of Thrones. Neither Marco Polo, nor Vikings could fill the hole left behind, and Elizabeth Woodville in The White Queen is no Cersei, thank you very much.
Suddenly, hope emerged like a rainbow, as the first trailers were released

The wait was almost over. Soon, your beloved HBO saga, with its raving lunatics, gratuitous love scenes and incestuous love affairs would be a part of your life again. You take comfort in knowing that your weekends will soon be filled with disturbing violence, distressing plot twists and power-hungry war hawks.
It suddenly occurs to you that you’ve forgotten what happened in season six. You freak out.

Oh god. No. TOO MANY PLOT STRANDS. TOO MANY CHARACTERS. You panic and put your head in your hands and mutter to yourself. What’s Samwell Tarly up to now? Is Bran still north of the wall? Whatever happened to Gendry? It’s all too much.
You devour anything GOT-related online to try and jog your memory. You give up.

Who the hell is Jojen Reed? Which one was Viserys Targaryen? And where the hell are Daenerys’s dragons? GAH. Are they lost?
Spoilers begin to appear online so you go into shutdown mode

You’re reading an innocent enough article, until you reach the line promising that season seven will see a "whole bunch of reunions and first-time meetings that fans have been waiting for”? Please, stop. You cover your eyes and try to avoid being spoiled on any more delectable plot twists and tantalizing character developments.
You retreat from the outside world and invest in obscene amounts of junk food.

Walking down the shopping aisles, clutching a super-size box of Coco Pops, you tell yourself: “This will be my life from now on. I’ll just be a Game of Thrones consultant. That’s fine”, as your future job prospects crumble down around you.
The season starts, but then you remember this one is shorter than normal, and you’ll have to wait another year until the final one

The endless cycle of nervous anticipation begins to start up all over again. That’s OK though. Valar morghulis. A girl has no name. A Lannister always pays his debts. BURN. THEM. ALL.
Yeah, Game of Thrones is going to put you through the emotional wringer, but at least it’s back for now.
