21 of the Best Twitter Reactions to TIME Person of the Year 2017
By Mathilde Frot
Updated December 6, 2017 Updated December 6, 2017If you haven’t heard, TIME’s Person of the Year 2017 has been announced, with the title going to “the Silence Breakers”, the women who spoke out against sexual harassment and assault, triggering revelations about movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, US TV presenter Matt Lauer, and many more.
Although TIME has said this is a movement lacking a particular leader or figurehead, the magazine highlights the contributions of some people in particular, including Tarana Burke, the creator of the #MeToo hashtag, Taylor Swift, who won a civil case against an ex-DJ for groping her and Ashley Judd, one of the first alleged victims of Harvey Weinstein to go on the record against the film producer.
Coming shortly after Donald Trump openly lied about turning down the chance to be TIME’s Person of the Year, the announcement caused a mini meltdown on Twitter. Here are some of our favorite tweets celebrating #PersonOfTheYear…
Woke Twitter had a ball
Taylor Swift fans entered the fourth dimension
Robert Mueller fans were left disappointed he was overlooked
Meanwhile, Obama nostalgics were in denial
Other strong contenders did not make it to the list
Some people anticipated another Trump Twitter meltdown
Of course, someone had to make #PersonOfTheYear about net neutrality…
